Angel Wings

Written for my mom on Mother's Day several years ago

They say God knows all about you
before you even arrive
he knows of your future struggles
and what makes you feel alive.

Sometimes he sees a special need
that will require a special soul
to care for that little one
and help her grow up whole.

Maybe one day in Heaven
God made a plan
to send an angel
from his mighty angel band

An angel who was willing
to give up Heaven for a while
to come to earth, a human
to care for that little child.

Perhaps one angel considered it
and dropped her angel wings
and said "Choose me, I ask you, Lord,
with joy my heart does sing."

"Make me that special mother
of the precious little pearl
and give me the trials needed
to raise that troubled little girl."

And so the angel came down from Heaven
and was born just like me
she grew up with so many struggles
she never had it easy.

But complain, she refused to do
though the pain was never mild
because she knew that each moment of hurt
was preparing her for that little child.

The baby was born healthy
with strong legs unlike her own
but with a broken spirit
and a constant feeling of being alone.

Yet the years of her own pain and anguish
had prepared her like no other
to walk with this child in her journey
as her very special mother.

The days, months and years passed by
and little did the girl know
that an angel's wings were always around her
protecting and watching her grow.

And even today if you listen
and watch them hand in hand
you will hear them hum the Heavenly songs
that is sung in God's mighty angel band.
