Standing in the warm foamy sand
it was dry water
it was wet land
My toes, they curled, dancing in it fine
twas sweet and salty
the ocean's wine
An eye I saw before me pass
a soul of old
of ancient past
No seafarer better would I see
this leathered skin
shell-coated be
A look, a shake of the head and I
dove into the traveler
under clouds and sky
We dove ever deeper into the mass
'cross time and space
and waves of glass
Beyond shipwrecks, soul wrecks, and ancient graves
in canyons, summits
underwater caves
The fish in schools, the learned be
the dolphins splashing
in untouched glee
From deep in darkness we rose in a run
exploding with force
into warmest sun
Then I felt myself changing, I swear it I say,
my legs became roots
of a willow in sway
My feet deep in earth, yet still reaching for light
bare branches birthed buds
and birds took to flight.
And I watched, though was me, as my buds grew to leaves
once a sea turtle was I
now standing, a tree.
Thirsty for a drink, the clouds heard my moan
releasing floods from heaven
into dry and parched bones
A drop of rain on a leaf, shiny, green and meek.
released into the trickle
that was a mountain creek
In this single drop of rain now a part of the whole
in bliss of reunion
of water droplets' soul
The forest, if listening closely, could hear the brilliant laughter
of the tickled stones and minnows
from before and here after
Sliding down a waterfall sprayed up in fine mist
a tiny drop of water
a sacred prism kissed
Rejoining the mother round, the curves, the water flows
from creek and into rivers
from summer into snow
And finally returning, where I first stood ashore
I looked into the sea
and saw my turtle guide once more.
