The birds sang to me and broke the spell
my self-centered thoughts, my self-imposed hell
I felt like I was breakin' deep inside
circumstances, lost romances, emotional suicide.
In my head, no flowerbed
no color or sunshine
just black and white, an ugly sight
gonna lose my mind.
Then a robin, head a-bobbin
for a little food
sang a song, wasn't long
but it changed my mood
Made me stop, belly flop
and listen quietly
nature countin', quickly mountin'
its blessings from the trees.
The list was long, and mighty strong
and really very soon
had to smile, cause in a while
I recognized the tune.
"Count your blessings
name them one by one,
count your blessings
see what God has done"
Each chirping birdy, kinda wordy
saying "Thank you, Lord"
you're very kind for your design
and it can't be ignored.
Got in the groove, started to move
and compile my own list
got so inspired, I was tired
cause an ending didn't exist.
So when you're down, don't make a sound
but just walk in the sun
you'll hear the praise, holy craze
and you can't stop at one.
"Count your blessings
name them one by one,
count your blessings
see what God has done"
